The Prairie by Rachel Ashwell is a shaby chic mecca designed around an historic German-Texan homestead in the rural countryside.
New German Imigrants, Otto and Hedwig Meyer, stepped off the boat at Port Galveston Texas and into a new life on the Texas frontier. In the mid-1800's they built their farmhouse and barn on 46 peaceful acres beteen the Colorado River to the west and the Brazos River to the east.
The property passed through three generations before becoming a full time bed and breakfast. In 2006, Rachel Ashwell, the London born 'queen of Shabby Chic', bought the property and further transformed it into what we see today.
It's a lace meets boots, fine china meets wagon wheels, and
wildflowers meet the big Texas sky kind of place.
